                   Library Aide - Part-time

Reports to: Library Director

Pay Range: $11.64/hr. - $15.72/hr.

JOB SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Library Director ~ Computer Information Specialist, perform phases of circulation duties, work in close contact with the public, answer telephones, and do related work as required. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Assists the public in person or by phone, requiring knowledge of general library and circulation information; checks materials in and out; receives library card applications; inspects returned materials for damage; notifies patrons of reserves, overdue materials, and fines; searches for lost or misplaced materials; sorts and shelves materials and books; reads shelves to ensure proper order; maintains work area and picks up materials around the library; files; accepts monies for copies; books, and library materials; sits and stands for extended periods of time assisting patrons with public access catalog and computer use, cataloging new materials, retrieving materials, checking materials in and out, and answering the phone; some weekend and evening work required; and some exposure to dust, mechanical, and electrical hazards, using proper safety precautions.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

Operates photocopier, and various other office equipment; performs routine and minor maintenance chores; retrieves books and materials from shelves up to 8 feet high with aid of step stools; lifts and carries materials and equipment up to 50 pounds; and pushes and pulls a circulation cart.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, DEGREES, CERTIFICATES, AND LICENSES:

High school graduate or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS:

Knowledge of alphabet and number systems; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to operate computer automated library system, computers, IT and Internet, and other office equipment such as telephones, photocopiers, printing services on cell phones; and ability to communicate and deal effectively, tactfully, and pleasantly with patrons of varying ages and employees.
